• I get to Step 2 of installation and get the following (I’ve put the generic <username> back in for this inquiry):

    WordPress database error: [create command denied to user: ‘username@localhost’ for table ‘wp_categories’]

    And that message is repeated through various items where the above one has <‘wp_categories’]

  • It means the MySQL user you’ve set up in your wp-config.php does not have a CREATE privilege for the database, which is required for adding tables. No idea what your host provides for setting up SQL accounts, but check your control panel or admin tools there for what privileges are assigned to the user.

    Thanks. I’ve assigned all privileges. Still not working. Have referred to ISP support to see if they can figure it out at their end.

    ISP suggested as I had the same name for username and database name that this might be ‘confusing the system’ (my paraphrase) so suggested I vary one. Set a new username and everything went ahead ok.
