I accidentally deleted my Word Press database from my hosting service server. I do have the files however. Is there any way I can restore my blog from the files that I have? Can I just create a new blog for example and switch the new files for the older ones? Thanks for any suggestions.

  • What kind of files do you have?

I have all the files from the original wp folder. I accidentally deleted my blog through my hosting services admin panel. I could restore the files but not the database.

Check with your hosting company about backups. If you don’t have the database, then you’ll have an essentially empty WordPress when you restore the files — all the posts, pages, etc. will be gone.

Most hosting companies keep at least one daily backup for each site. Some of them keep a separate weekly backup as well.

You will need to ask your hosting provider if they have backups of the database content. There is no way to recover database content from just the files. Most hosting providers take backups.

Agreed with the two previous comments. Most of your data is in the database, and that is not stored with the WordPress files. Cross your fingers and ask your host.

Thanks for your replies. My hosting company is Network Solutions. The default setting for backups in “on.” However, when I started my blog 6 years ago the default was “off” for “keep backup.” Unfortunately I never noticed this, so it remained at default.

Since I have all the files I thought I may be able to trick the database. From the much appreciated input I guess this seems unlikely.

Well, I won’t make the same mistake twice! Thanks much!
