Database Connection Error

    Hi all,
    So I successfully moved my wordpress site from one URL to the other on Hostgator. Then I had a blonde moment and deleted the previous site, which also deleted the database.
    I restored the database from a backup of the original site and made the changes to the URLs in the various locations, but am still getting the “can’t connect to the database” error when I try to go to the site or login to the dashboard.
    Any help would be appreciated!

  • Have you updated your wp-config.php file? You’ll want to make sure the database credentials match your new database.

    Yep I’ve dupdated wp-config.php and can’t seem to get it to work. Is there anything else I could be missing?

    Yep. I have a tried a couple of browsers. I get nothing in Firefox, probably just need to clear the cache. In IE I get the first page but the links don’t work except the blog which is on a sub-domain and is separate.

    Now it is showing 500 Internal Server Error.

    Can you deactivate all plugins and revert to Twenty Twelve theme? If you cannot do so from dashboard, use FTP or control panel.

    I have deleted/removed all plugins and themes through the control panel. I’ve even replaced the .htaccess file with a blank one, to no avail.
    Any other suggestions?

    Now: Error establishing a database connection

    Check your wp-config.php file and see if you have the correct database name, database username, database password and MySQL hostname.
