• (New user, first time install)
Please forgive me my general idiocy and lack of code knowledge. I don’t understand what ‘Database’ is referring to. Is this asking for my account name with my hosting company? Is it the folder in which WP will be living? (and, if so, does WP need to be in a specific place, ie: outside public_html, or in it?) Or is this referring to a secret hidden MySQL term I was previously unaware of? (unaware because I have NO MySQL experience.)
I will bestow flowers and laurel wreaths upon any kind souls willing to hold my hand through this 30-second piece of the 5-min install.

  • Database is the mysql
WP can be placed anywhere, it matters not.
Ask your host for your mysql database name, your user name to connect to that databse, and your mysql password that is also needed.
You’ll be good to go then ??

The database is the “file” MySQL uses to store your data. WordPress needs the information specific to your MySQL. I would recommend asking your hosting provider for that info. ??

i SEE… it is all becoming very clear, now. thank you podz and Stevarino for your timely and applicable advice.

Can I skip the flowers and have chocolate instead ? ??

ah, chocolate. someday, there will be a world chocolate shortage and we will hord it like contraband.
    YES, you may have *chocolate.
if i were wealthy, or even had five dollars in my pocket, i would buy chocolate for ALL the WP folks, because today i am just tickled by this new blogging toy. it’s great!
*fine print: offer only valid in the continental US in states beginning with the letter ‘Z’.
