Data that accompanies images will not display
-
I just upgraded from version 1.9.12 to version 2.1.0. The images load faster but now, the background has gone from black to white and ALL the data that accompanied the image such at Title, Size, and Pricing has disappeared!
My site is richardwelkerart.com
My server is IN MOTION HOSTINGMy SQL is version 5.6.1
My PHP is up to date according to my server.
The mod_rewrite Apache module is activated.
The PHP safe mode is OFF.
I am running theme twenty-eleven.I am using a Macbook Pro with OS 10.9.5
The problem persists when turning OFF all other plugins.
I am having to restore my site back to version 1.9.12 of Next Gen so viewers can see the prices, artwork sizes and titles.
Thank you.

If I may, my question is similar to rpwelker’s question, so I would like to piggyback.
I would like to add fields such as Title, Medium, Size, Cost and Copyright to each image (picture) in my site https://www.ccscadmin.com (a test site).
I am up to date with the latest software: WordPress 4.2.2, NextGen 2.1.0.
I was unable to find a plugin that would address this on an image by image basis.
Thank you for your assistance.

@rpwelker – Are you referring to the image meta data (IPTC/EXIF data) or are you referring to some other data that was being presented in your displays?
– Cais.
Will do, thx
@jfkirkpatrick – Thank you.

Dear Cais,
I am not sure what you mean when you say, “Are you referring to the image meta data (IPTC/EXIF data) or are you referring to some other data that was being presented in your displays?”Here’s exactly what happened. Under version 1.9.12 I would go to Gallery, then to Manage Gallery and then click on the gallery where all my painting images are stored. There is a text box there entitled Alt & Title Text / Description. I would enter the Name, the size and the price of the image and click “save changes”.
Then when you go to my site and click on the gallery button a block of thumbnails comes up against a black background. When you click on any one of the thumbnails, it expands to show that image also against a black background. Below it is the Price, the size and the cost of each version of that image that I sell.
PROBLEM OCCURS with new version of Next Gen Gallery 2.1.0.
Everything remains the same until you click on an image in the thumbnails. Instead of expanded image loading against a black background it loads against a white background and all the data I input in the “Manage Gallery” section under the above Alt & Title Text / Description text box does not show. In the old version the data being displayed was white against a black background but now the background is white so the data is invisible.
ALSO, in the old version of 1.9.12, one clicks again on the expanded version in order to get back to the thumbnail page. But now in the new version, that function no longer works. You have to click on the back button to get back to the thumbnails.I really need help here. We tried to back up my site to the older version but the server had a glitch and now all my images do not display correctly against the black background along with the data and no customer can find out the prices or even the titles.
I am not very computer savy so whatever you tell me to do I hope you can do it very clearly.
Sincerely,
RichardPlease go to richardwelkerart.com to see what I mean. Click on Gallery and then choose any image. The image comes up fast but against white background and no data displays.
@rpwelker – It appears you are referring to the Lightbox Effects that display the image (and its descriptions, etc.) … have you tried different Lightbox Effects under Gallery > Other Options > Lightbox Effects? We did have to remove two of them that were available in NextGEN Legacy versions as they were found to be non-GPL compatible.
– Cais.
That did it Cais! Switched to Thickbox so background is now grey but at least the titles, sizes and prices now show! If you know how to make it black that would be better but I can at least live with this for now.
Thank you so much. You have been of enormous help and have saved me more time than I can tell you.One last question. When I import digital files of paintings to the gallery, the dates in the Manage Gallery section under the file name all read January 1, 1970. Do you know how to fix that?
Richard
OK, switched to shutter and the black background suddenly appeared!
Thank you!
RichardUNABLE TO CREATE NEW THUMBNAILS with Next Gen 2.1.0
It used to be a snap to go the Add Gallery/Images button, and upload an image. It would appear resized no larger than 800 pixels wide by 600 pixels long and it would automatically create a new thumbnail.
Now the entire format has changed and so has the functionality. Example: I go the Add Gallery/Images button, click on the gallery I want the image to appear in, then select the Add Files button and then click on the Start Upload button.
Only now it takes a very long time to load. When it is finished, I go to the Manage Galleries button in the drop down menu, click on that and there is the thumbnail forming but very slowly, like a venetian blind lowering. When that is complete I go to view my web site to check if the image has been added. I click on the Gallery where all the thumbnails are but instead of a new thumbnail, the new image is taking up nearly half the page and off into the margins above all the existing thumbnails.
I have tried changing the gallery settings to override the default which is 150 x 75. I have gone to the Other Options button and under Thumbnail Options have tried various combinations of setting or not setting the fixed dimensions and nothing seems to help. A few times I got the thumbnail to appear only it was slightly smaller than the rest. Sometimes a question mark would appear where the thumbnail should be.
Now I can’t even get the thumbnail to appear except as a giant image and I’ve had to delete the image altogether and start over again and again without success. Can you tell me what is going on? It used to be so simple and so automatic.
@rpwelker – There could be any number of reasons you are now seeing slow loading times on your site but as a general comparison we are now seeing NextGEN Gallery loading faster than NextGEN Legacy in almost every single one of our test (there are still a few sites with unrelated issues that load slower).
What are you seeing under Server Settings when you look at Gallery > Overview? This is as good as any place to start for now.
Thanks!
– Cais.
Cais,
Thank you very much for responding. When I go to Gallery > Overview I see 68 images, 5 galleries and 0 Albums.
Under Gallery Settings,
I checked YES to override the thumbnail settings and set the thumbnail dimensions at 100 x 75 which apparently was the old default. Thumbnail crop is set at yes. Images per page is 20. The rest of the settings on that page are default settings.Under Other Options, the question of where I want the galleries stored is blank.
Delete Image files is checked YES.
Automatically resize images after upload is checked YES.
What should images be resized to is as follows: Width 800 and Height 600 at quality 100%.
Backup the original images is checked YES.
What is the default sorting method? is CUSTOM.
Sort in what direction is marked ASCENDING.
Show related images on Posts is checked NO.Thank you very much for your help. I hope I’m understanding you correctly.
Load time may be a function of my own slow connection as I agree with you that the new version generally loads faster. Just that the latest attempts to load new images loads much slower than all the others combined. Very strange and difficult to describe.
Also, how can I send you a screen shot in the future?
