“Data-pin-media”

WPSSO only looks for images in the the content as the last resort, and then only looks at HTML tags added by WordPress from the Media Library – it does not look at the data-pin value. In fact, if the “Add Hidden Image for Pin It Button” option is enabled under the SSO > General > Pinterest tab, WPSSO adds an image to the content for Pinterest.

Make sure there are no rejected images (ie. too small) in the SSO toolbar notification menu when editing a post/page – that would explain why WPSSO might fallback to the content for images.

Not sure I understand.

The image at the top of the article is what I’d like to show on Facebook and Twitter. https://www.becomingminimalist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/simplicity-inspiring.jpg

But instead, it’s showing https://www.becomingminimalist.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/sample-living-with-less.jpg which is only found on the site in the data-pin-media.

Is there a way to override this throughout the site?

Edit the post/page and make sure there are no SSO toolbar warning/error notification messages (ie. make sure the featured image you choose is large enough).

That particular post doesn’t have any warnings from the SSO toolbar. Though, there are some posts that are using images that are quite small.

Is there a way to have the plugin use images that are too small for the opengraph and twitter card anyway? There are hundreds of articles with the data-pin-media piece and it’d take quite a long time to go through each one manually. We used to use (I think) Jetpack for the open graph stuff and that had everything set correctly.

Would it be easier to just disable that part of WPSSO and turn it back on via Jetpack?

WPSSO does not read the “data-pin-media” attribute, no matter how big or small. WPSSO uses the WordPress image attachment ID to get an image from WordPress using a WordPress image size name.
