Dashboard Search not working

  • Hello,
    I’m trying to use the search box found in the dashboard and no matter where I am (pages, users, posts, plugins) each time I do a search it returns all results. For example, we have a student directory with ~200 students and if I search for “David” all 200 students come back as the results even though only maybe 3 have the name “David” in them. This is happening in all areas as well. No matter what term I use in the pages tab all pages are returned in the results. Any idea why it’s not working? WP is up to date.

  • The default search in the admin does not allow you to search by “name” only username or email address. You can extend this functionality to work when you use the users first name and/or last name with the code mentioned in this article.
