• This has been a problem on my site for a while now (www.soulofmiami.org and to a lesser extent https://www.lifeisartfest.org). I did a search on the forums to see if I could find a resolution, but my search-fu is weak.

    Background
I’ve been using WP since July of 2008. I am by no means an expert, but I am pretty good. I am not an HTML or PHP hack, so I mostly just use the pre-made stuff.

Over the past few months, it has been getting worse and worse, where I often get “Page Not Found” or “500 Internal Server” errors while using the dashboard. This happens a lot when editing a post or page. Refreshing (F5) the page will eventually fix it, but nowadays it often takes 5 or more applications of refresh to get back to the dashboard.

I am hosting on Dreamhost using PHP 5.2 Fast CGI. I am using the Calatropsis Theme with the following Plugins
    AddToAny: Share/Bookmark/Email Button
    Akismet
    Contact Form 7
    Contact Form to DB Extension
    Facebook Share Statistics
    Fancy Gallery
    Featured Tag Widget
    Feed Statistics
    Google XML Sitemaps
    List category posts
    Pagebar2
    Query Multiple Taxonomies
    Simple Twitter Status Updates
    Tweet Blender
    Twitter Mentions as Comments
    WordPress.com Stats
    wp-cache
    WP Render Blogroll Links
    WPtouch

It is a very busy site, we have over 10,000 posts.

I have tried deactivating a few of the plugins here and there, but nothing rigorous. Does not seem to make a difference.

I have inquired with my host, and they claim it is a problem with WordPress or the plugins or something. Essentially, they said the issue is not on their end.

Does anyone else have a problem like this? Is this a known issue? Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix it?

I wanted to bump this, I have the same issue. Although I can’t say exactly when it happened, I have four WP 3.1 blogs on my host, and all of them started having intermittent Internal Server Errors, often right when I told someone they should check the site out. It happens quite a bit while adding new content.
It’s actually doing it right now, so I can’t list my plug-ins, but it’s quite a few less than soulofmiami is listing. I do know I have Akismet, CF7, and WPTouch installed. When it comes back up I’m going to start disabling plug-ins.
I called my host many times, and they basically told me it was my problem, deal with it. Any advice appreciated.

    Hi Krucz,

Thanks for bumping this. It is still happening on my blogs. A lot. And I have swapped themes, disabled plugins, yadda yadda yadda. All the standard stuff.

Is NObody else experiencing this problem?

I got the same issue with my wordpress blog hosted also at Dreamhost… It’s been getting worse and worse. Not sure what it is, I have only two plugins as you and those are Google XML Sitemaps and wp-cache, so I guess it’s not something about plugins, I’m guessing maybe the MySQL or corrupted htaccess file. but I’m only guessing, NEED HELP as well, so any please, share some wisdom here…

practicalseo – You need to talk to Dreamhost.

If all of you are having this issue on the SAME host, then … it’s them. And if they won’t help you, I would suggest voting with your wallet and moving.

Well, krucz seems to have a different host, and I have been running this blog on dreamhost for two years and this started about a month ago… Dreamhost support suggested memory issues, but I moved to a private server with a private mysql and it remained the same. So I don’t think it’s the hosting provider, something with my WP is not running as it should, my guess is a plugin that is calling too many hits or something like that because my pages load extremely fast and this just happens out of the blue…

Any other input will be appreciated, thanks ??

this happened to me and i ran repair all tables in phpmyadmin to fix it but it comes back after give or take 10 posts

That’s possible, but a DB repair is something your host should have suggested (or even tried for you… I don’t like hosts who just say ‘Its the app.’ cause, man, over a million people use it, and a really SMALL number have the ish…).

    Start with the usual suspects.

    1) turn off all plugins
    2) repair the DB
    3) May as well optimize it too

I am having this problem as well and my host hasn’t been too helpful. They have increased memory about 3 times, but nothing. For me, this happens when I am trying to approve comments though.

I am having the same issue—also hosting on Dreamhost. It seems to be okay for a while, and then suddenly nearly everything I try to do will bring up the 404 page missing error. It is starting to get old!

Yup, we’ve had this issue on Dreamhost for quite a while. I now help run two popular websites that have issues with the backend loading on Dreamhost. The user-side is cached, so it’s fine, but the backend only works about 10-40% of the time. Very annoying, but they provide discounts for non-profits and other options are sparse. (other hosts – help!)

Same thing here. can’t solve this problems.
