Dashboard page grossly misformatted. Unable to access anything except php code clicking on any link on the Dashboard. Checked host File Manager and htaccess missing from wp-admin and no dot (.) before file htaccess name. Attempted to rename adding prefix dot (.) and lost all WP and website pages blank.

Backed up everything this morning yet unsuccessful in restoring. At a total loss what happened or how to recover my website and WP access. I’ve spent the last 3.5 months in design and development of this new church website. Help desperately needed on this, please.

    Thank you,
    Craig

Try downloading a fresh copy of WP 2.8.5. Create a new copy of your wp-config.php file and re-upload the wp-admin & wp-includes folders and all files in the root WordPress folder. Do not upload the wp-content folder.

Next, rename the wp-content/plugins folder and rename your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes. That should deactivate all plugins and activate the default theme – which hopefully will give you access again so you can re-build.
