The latest update to WordPress blew up my website. I cannot access my dashboard to replace it with the backup that I made before updating to this disaster. Need help or do I have to hire someone to fix this mess?

The error reported is trying to tell you that Feed WordPress is having problems for some reason…

FTP (or use your hosting control panel’s Filemanger) and rename the Feed WordPress plugin’s directory by adding 1234 or bak to the name. That will kill your Feed WordPress plugin and allow you to bring the site back up.

Troubleshoot everything else then check to make sure your Feed WordPress is the latest version and re-enable it by renaming the plugin’s directory back to what it was before.

I’m running a multisite with Feed WordPress installed and the update worked fine with mine which is why I’m wondering if you are running an earlier version.

You may need to disable it again via FTP and seek help from the author and the support community there.

My understanding is the SimplePie parser has a compatibility issue but I haven’t seen the problem here so I’m unsure of what that is about.

Thank you for your time in replying. I never heard of “Feed WordPress” and have no idea what it is or where it is. I do not have access to the FTP. My website is hosted by my son oh his expensiver host, and he is very busy and too busy to help. I manage the files and updates, and, until now, without a problem because I always have a backup before updating. I would just prefer to get back to 5.4 and leave this mess to the programmers to fix. I will not update WordPress in the future until an update has been out for a couple of months. I understand it is a volunteer project. Thanks again for trying to help but is just mumbo jumbo to me. I just want it to work, but I know it is not like Apple products that you can just use without headaches.

My son graciously took the time to give me the FTP information. He is not a technical person so it took several emails and hours to get it right and the password. I got in and managed to find the plugin folder hidden where I would not have suspected. I found the FeedWordPress plugin and changed the name for the “folder” not the plugin and that worked. I was able to get my website up and running again. I switched back to WordPress 5.4.2. And everything works fine. I do have the latest update to the FeedWordPress plugin according to the plugin information page on WordPress. I do remember the plugin after reading its description. So everything you told me was correct and helpful. No one else gave any advice, so I needed to write this and to thank you again.FeedWordPress is now turned off. I should be able to update to 5.5 without issue. Thanks for you patience and understanding. I am a creative type and can do this left-brain stuff, but don’t like it to use it. For example, the new left-brain editor is for programmers and is a nightmare for the way I think and process. Fortunately, they keep the plugin for the old way of editing updated. Peace
