Hi,

When I’m in the wp-admin dashboard, sometimes the links to “plugins” “users” etc, result in a “Nothing here” page. Other times they open the HTML list of the page. The moment this started to happen coincides with the install of Wordfence, and I have the impression that it happens more often after opening the Wordfence panels.

Do you have a guess to why this is happening?

Thanks for reaching out!

It’s possible this is an issue with your browser since the behavior is happening randomly. Have you tried clearing your browser cache and reloading your site?

If that doesn’t fix it, you can try deactivating Wordfence and checking the links from your WordPress Dashboard again. If the problem continues, then it’s likely not being caused by Wordfence.

You might also need to deactivate your plugins one by one to isolate which one could be causing the issue. It’s a good idea to revert to a default theme such as Twenty Twenty-Two while you do this, as the current theme could also be the cause of the problem.

Thanks. It didn’t happen again. I’m not sure why. But I do have my website hacked since about the same moment that I installed Wordfence. Anonymousfox hacker. Maybe it is related.

Since we know the site is compromised, and the “page not found” errors stopped around the time that Wordfence was installed, it is possible that Wordfence is preventing that behavior. Still, sites that are compromised rarely ever clean themselves and are like new again. It’s best to treat things like nothing is fixed yet. Let’s discuss your options right now.
