For WP 3.1 the graphics for my edit buttons are all missing the graphics and show a broken graphic symbol. This is a brand new installation on bluehost.com sub domain. My main blog is also 3.1 and is working fine. Any ideas?

  • revrockrohr,

Try to re-install. Make sure you’ve uploaded all the files.

I used both the automatic install from bluehost simple scripts, and also reinstalled manually by uploading with ftp. Same problem both ways. The graphics for the buttons do appear momentarily, but then disappear. Again, this is not happening on my active blog. ???

Do you happen to have hotlink protection or something similar on your main blog? Maybe an image-blocking plugin?

Maybe try a test install in a test directory of your main domain, something like domain.com/test and see if problems happen there too.

I have set up test directories and put manually installed 3.1 and I am getting the same results with the stripped down, basic download from WP. The visual edit buttons don’t have the graphic icons on them. It is happening on 4 different computers, Win 7 32 and 64 bit, and XP 32 bit. It is happening in FF 3.6, FF 4, Chrome, Safari and IE8. Thanks for suggestions, I still figure out what is happening. Meanwhile, one of my longstanding blogs is working fine with 3.1. That one has had upgrades internally. It seems there is a difference between the fresh install and the older install.

    revrockrohr,

Contact bluehost through chat and let them reproduce the problem, may be they will fix it. This is a kind of problem when you should reproduce it first. Meanwhile try to clear your browser cache and access your website again.

I also suggest to open the source of the page from your browser and check paths for those images. Make sure it’s correct and you can access those files using the path.

Bluehost.com helpdesk, my hosting company, figured out this problem. I had “hotlinking protection” on and it was not letting the WP installations on the subdomains work correctly, like the graphic icon buttons in the visual editor not showing up. When I disabled the “hotlinking protection” everything began working fine. What I also figured out on that same “hotlinking protection” page is that there is an option to “allow direct links.” I checked this box with the “hotlinking protection” enabled and it works. The buttons for the visual editor are not ok. Thanks all!
