Dash Board Does not appear

I just installed WordPress on my website to run a blog.
However I ran into the difficulty of not being able to access the dashboard when ever I try to login through the wp-login.php screen

Login Screen. it takes me to a list of .php files instead of the dashboard.

I’ve got the same thing, except my dashboard is blank. WordPress 3.0.1

we solved this after reading https://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/xampp/ The key thing was to:-
1. put all the wp files in the right directory (the readme is a bit vague on WHERE you put them)
2. wp-config.php to make it work for us was in the directory above /wordpress/
