    I have just updated 4 plugins via my dashboard on our website [redundant URL removed]. I am using the penultimate version of WordPress (not WordPress 6)

    This has caused all the formatting for my dashboard to be lost. I was hoping that by clicking the links. something would work so that I can mend things. But nothing functions.

    The website itself is visible. But I cannot edit it at all.

    Please can you advise what best to do? I have cleared cache, and restarted my computer.

    I apologise again for that long list. I am ready to experiment now to change the theme and to explore further those error messages.

    Thanks for providing such detail with the errors on your pages!

    From what I am seeing, and from what you have mentioned, you are using an older version of WordPress core, not the latest version.

    Kindly note that in order for your site to obtain optimal functionality, it is highly recommended that it remains updated, this may just resolve the issue you are facing. Plugins and themes provide their own updates to remain compatible with WordPress, and this may just be the case here.

    Would you like to update to the latest version before running a full conflict test, as this may just be the cause of the issue?

    Before doing this, please ensure that you have a good backup of your full site and database in place before doing the updates, so that, should something go wrong, you are able to easily restore your site to a functioning state.

    Most hosting providers have this included in the subscription however, you may also consider using a service such as Jetpack, or a plugin like UpdraftPlus.

    Hi Roxanne,

    Thankyou for pointing out that my version of WordPress needs an update: I was not aware of this. Sadly, because my Dashboard is broken, I am unable to use it to make the update needed. If there is some other way, can you let me know?

    I have just now
    1) Disabled all plugins
    2) Made sure I am using the latest version of Theme Twenty Fifteen
    3) Changed the theme to Twenty Twenty One

    .. but this did not fix the error. I changed the theme back to Twenty Fifteen.`

    I’d like to update to the latest version, and hope to do this if you can help further.

    .. but this did not fix the error. I changed the theme back to Twenty Fifteen.

    Since this rules out a theme/plugin conflict, an update would definitely be recommended.

    Since you are unable to access your dashboard at this time, you are able to update WordPress via your cPanel, or FTP, please see the detailed documentation below on how this can be done:

    Hi Roxanne,

    Thank you so much for this help. I can now give you the good news that the upgrade worked fine. I used cPanel.

    The Dashboard is now visible and working again!

    Just to let you know also, in my voyage of discovery, I used cPanel to create a clone of the website, and expeirmented on this first, which helped me not to panic too much.

    This is always a good idea, and good practice when wanting to do any testing on your sight for compatibility/conflicts as well!
