• Hi All,

Using mqTranslate and thanks to the wealth of information on found on Themes & Co’s website, I finally figured out how to switch my top menu and pages from French to English on my Customizr based website BUT I have another small difficulty.

I use sliders on my pages and each one, no surprise here, has text in it. I have both French and English versions of each and every one of my sliders

Does anyone know of a way when switching from one language to another (i.e: French to English and vice-versa) to also switch the slider to the one matching the language selected.

Thanks in advance to all who reply

  • What do you mean, the image or the text?

The text found in Customizr’s slider sections. More specifically, the following sections

    – Title text (80 car. max length)
    – Description text (below the title, 250 car. max length)
    – Button text (80 car. max length)

Thanks. Only one thing though, I’m using the Customizr Child theme and theres no class-fire-init.php.

Last time I copied a PHP theme file (functions.php in this case), everything crashed. Any idea if its safe to copy class-fire-init.php?

You can copy it in your child-theme/inc . Just remember, with further updates, to check if something else has changed in that class.
Anyway you can also change the core file, and in this case you just have to remember to re-add that part on every customizr update, if needed, ’cause it could be included in one of the next releases (but I’m not sure about that).

    Hope this helps.

    p.s.
functions.php is probably the only one file of the core that if copied in the child theme, also without change it, cause that, also you didn’t need to do that.. so why you did that? ??

    Thanks for the clarification.

Re: copying functions.php, one of the things I was trying to do while looking to perform the page translation required changes to that file.

Child theme i had created was flaky and like I said, everything crashed after copying functions.php. Hence the reason for getting Customizr Child which included that file and all.

Since I started using Customizr Child, everything’s been good

    So, now it works?

Haven’t had a chance to try it yet. I’m at a customer’s site right now.

Will let you know as soon as possible.

Please let us know is it working when you make changes to class-fire-init.php…

I couldn’t get it to work. Probably a code 18 as I’m new to WordPress and web design.

Because time is of the essence and I have other contracts, I removed all text from the sliders and put an equivalent in the body of each page with h2 and h3 tags to make it stand out.

Will get back to it when I have more time.

    Thanks for the assist d4z_c0nf

An alternative, for anyone who needs a working solution now, is to use Polylang with Customizr.

Can I use polylang while using mqtranslate?

So polylang just for slider… ??

    Thanks

…and, what happens when qtranslate is deleted and what when polylang is deleted?

Does translated pages stay or not?…

Nope. You cannot use them together (Or at least you can, but your site would be a polyglot’s nightmare ??

See the link I gave above for a comparison of the two.

As to how easy it is to migrate, it depends on how big your site is. If it’s just a few pages, then it’s easy. Otherwise there would be an awful lot of cutting and pasting to do.

If you’re just starting out, you can choose which approach you prefer.
