Customizing Theme in Child Theme

  • Hi There,

    Since wordpress recently updated it erased all of my custom work so I got back up copies from my host and I am trying to put it all together in a Child theme so that nothing gets disturbed from now on. The problem is that it is not quite reading the original theme and not functioning properly, so I was wondering what exactly I am doing wrong and where. I uploaded all of the old files into a new child theme folder- referenced the name of the folder in the heading and the original parent theme also (gravit) yet it is just one long thing of text and code. It is not active, but only in preview (as I don’t want to lose the site as it currently is!) Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated!
