So I was tasked to customize a WordPress theme called Directory Press see here, it allows the backend functionality of adding “listings” – which is great for aggregator type sites. My main problem is finding an approach or method to best customize and style this theme. I am by default going to try to Child Theme method, but have heard horror stories on here where a theme is striped out to best customize, and I was hoping to avoid that scenario. Any tips or hints appreciated!

The best way to make changes like this to a theme is to use a child theme, so your tweaks won’t be overwritten when updating the theme.

As for the theme itself, since that is a commercial theme, we ask that you please go to their official support channel, so you can get support from the people who know it best.

Forum volunteers are also not given access to commercial products, so they would not know how it operates. Other community members who may have faced your issue might be able to help you but your best bet is your product’s developer. Keep in mind we encourage you to use the official support venues, as it allows the developers to be aware of issues with their code and gives back to the community in a more robust way.
