Customizing crash: Error establishing a database connection

  • While trying to use the customize function instead of your website you get a message : ‘Error establishing a database connection’ in a big font. The website itself doesn’t have any issues, everything else seems ok.

    Are you able to surf around your site (both the front end and via the WordPress dashboard)? If not, then you might double-check your database details in the wp-config.php file in your WordPress install.

    I can do it on the front end of the website and in all of the feature areas, but when i enter the customize option the message shows up.

    Can you switch themes to one of the default WordPress ones to see if you can access the Customizer then?

    I am using the twenty eleven theme.

    I am having the exact same error message (Error Establishing a Database Connection) and I am running the twenty eleven them as well. I cannot access the login for my site.

    Are you able to FTP or SFTP into your site? If so, you might login to check that your database settings are connect in wp-config.php.
