Customizer cannot activate since Worpress 5.5 update please help

  • My site uses MagazineBook 1.0.9 (free version). On Aug 11, WordPress automatically updated to version 5.5. Since then (I think- it could have happened previously) the theme customizer no longer works. The Activate button appears as Cannot Activate. I am able to change my sites appearance settings using all the other tabs for Appearance but not the Customize tab. Without this tab working, I am cannot change how my posts appear or other theme general settings.

    I use Chrome and have cleared my browser cache. I have also deactivated my plugins, but still it does not work.

    Please advise.
