Customized E-mails to Subscribers

Anyone have any idea if there’s a plugin that allows me to send customized emails to email subscribers?

Basically, I need to let subscribers choose which categories they want to subscribe to and then mail them post titles from those chosen categories.

Will I have to write a plugin for it? Was thinking of just adding column to the users table with the selected category preference, and using it to compose messages for each user.
