• The text box for “Customize the Note to Seller Text” no longer shows up after update. I have tried in Mac Safari & Chrome and Windows Firefox and Chrome.

Hi, can you share which plugin version worked for you before you updated the plugin?

Just to confirm…. the following field is definitely there in the settings menu of this plugin.

Customize the Note to Seller Text

I am going to assume that the version I was using before 4.2.7 was 4.2.6., I have only been using the plugin for a couple of months.

Also, yes under Settings -> WP Shopping Cart you do see the option for entering the “Customize the Note to Seller Text”. It is just not showing up anywhere when we go to check out.

Remember the note to seller text is shown on the FINAL screen (where the user hits the pay button). This is the page that is shown AFTER the user logs into the paypal account and the title of the page says “Review your information”. This is where the customer hits the “Pay Now” button and the transaction is confirmed.

Yes, it is not there. Here is the website: https://pc4hassociation.org

Here is a screenshot of the setting page:

Notice there is no option to review a note to the seller before you hit pay now.

@blindaman, I added a product to the cart and tested this feature on your site. The plugin is correctly sending the value to the PayPal payment page. So it’s not a bug in the plugin.

PayPal recently made some changes to their payment page. That may have made this feature broken (They will probably fix it soon). However, their instructions are still the same for adding a custom note:

    https://developer.paypal.com/docs/classic/paypal-payments-standard/integration-guide/Appx_websitestandard_htmlvariables/

I’m having the same problem. I recently installed the plugin, set everything up and tested it using a Paypal sandbox account, which uses the old payment page, and everything worked with no problem. Much easier than I expected.

As soon as I was ready to go live I switched it to the proper Paypal account. It then went to the new payment page, and there was nowhere to add a note.

A temporary solution would be to contact every customer after they order, but that takes more work.

Same here. The new PayPal checkout page has no place for message to seller.

@demiurgos, you might want to report this to PayPal. As @wptipsntricks mentioned above it could be broken in PayPal because of their current changes.

Has anyone had luck with this issue with PayPal being resolved? The tech person at PayPal hung up on me today after telling me it was a 3rd party issue.

    (@blindaman)

No, The only thing I got from Paypal was “we are working to resolve this issue”.

This is really a paypal issue. Their checkout simply ignores the following two fields at the moment:

    no_note
    cn

Their documentation explains that the above two fields are used to customize the instructions text. And the plugin is definitely sending those data to paypal (I have verified it by inspecting the HTML code of the button).

PayPal has been doing a lot of changes to their checkout so this is functionality is broken until they start to honor those variables (as stated in their documentation).

    Thanks for the responses!

Have any of you found a comparable and easy solution instead of the WP Simple Cart that works? Or how to create a comment box? We need the additional information for ordering and it would be nice to simplify it.

I was just about to post my own question, asking this same thing, when I ran across this thread.

Any ideas yet? On my site, we hold an event where people can register as an individual, a couple, and with kids. We need to get the First/Last Name for EACH person being registered.

I know I can just put text in the page telling people to “please send email to <link> giving us the names of each person you are registering”, but that is kind of an ugly kludge. Not to mention that there is no guarantee that everyone will actually DO it.

followup: I just got off the phone with PayPal’s business support and the guy I talked to IMMEDIATELY knew of the problem (a good sign). He indicated that this is something the engineers are taking seriously to correct – although he could not give me a time frame.

    so….
