Customize Tab 500 internal server Error

  • so for a while ive searched about fixing this but i think it will be easier asking.

    so ive created a website for myself, producing music and DJing. Now when im logged in and view the site at the top theres the customize button. if i click on that i can no longer use it. i get a 500 internal error.

    when i click on more about the error this is what it says:

    The website encountered an error while retrieving https://mevsmusic.com/wp-admin/customize.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fmevsmusic.com%2F. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.

    could there be something wrong with the customize.php file? if so what could it be??

    ive also deactivated all plugins and started on original twentyfifteen theme and the error still shows up.

    I have recently installed WordPress 3.8.5 and am having the same issue as described above.

    It is on a brand new server (Ubuntu 14 LTS). I went to install a theme and am unable to customize. If I revert to the default theme I am able to edit/customize/live preview.

    Am attempting with the Nirvana theme,
