Customize Single-article.php Template Using Child theme

Hello,

I have copied the plugins/echo-knowledge-base/templates/single-article.php template to my child theme using the exact same file structure which is themes/child-theme/echo-knowledge-base/templates/single-article.php.

When I make changes to the original single-article.php file, I see my changes immediately. When I make changes to the child theme file, so as to protect my customizations from future upgrades, I cannot see any changes at all.

Please help me with this issue. Is there a special way to customize your plugin templates?
