Customize is blank after update

    Hi, I recently updated wordpress and now when i go to Customize, page is completely blank, except for “you are now editing….”. No menu options and its a white frame to the right.

    I tried all the other suggestions, I disabled all plugins with no luck.
    I reinstalled wordpress with no luck.
    I enabled debug mode, received many deprecated error messages but after i disabled all plugins, the messages went away but customize still blank.
    I also tried beta mode to see if any new updates would fix it with no luck

  • Have you tried:

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    – resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

    Thanks, I did try changing the theme to twentyseventeen, and reset via ftp, no luck. IM trying reuploading right to an older version. But i cant rely on that as a non developer will maintain the site after me.

    An older version of what? WordPress? If “yes”, then please stop and upload a fresh download of the current version of WordPress. Running an old version of WordPress will, at best, could create a very real risk of your site being hacked. At worst, it could bring your site down and the database version could be incorrect.

    Yes, WordPress, no luck though. This is a stage server for right now so im trying things i come up with and not worried about hacking until after i figure out the issue.

    OK, So I downgraded to WP 4.0 and now it is back. Any ideas? I did try to update again and it broke.

    ok, so for now i will roll the site back to the wicked old version of 3.72 until i hear of more ideas. I also tried increasing the PHP memory size with no luck.

    OK, so upon solving another issue, I fixed this issue .

    When the site was sent to me, they had this commented out:
    define(‘DB_CHARSET’, ‘utf8’);

    And the Reading settings had a different encoding of ISO-8859-1, i changed it to UTF-8.

    Weird how that was the issue but maybe itll help someone else.
