• Hello.

I just wondered if anyone can help me with one or two things.

I am trying to customise WordPress and would like to have a top header, left sidebar, footer and main content. I have modified one of the themes and made it active, and also changed the CSS.

I now have sort of what I want but not quite.

The side bar is on the left however there is a small gap at the top and bottom. I would like it to look as if there is no gap to the header and footer. I would also like to get rid of the line border below the header and above the footer that separates it from the content.

Also, one other thing is that the list in the sidebar seems to be an ordered list with round bullets in front of the blogroll, archives etc. How do I get rid of these? I thought that anything in ul tags is unordered, and in ol is ordered. My sidebar is all ul, but still has the round things in front.

The location of the test site I am trying to customise is:
    https://tinyurl.com/8go2e

If you can point me in the right direction I’d be very grateful.

So far I have followed the advice of Urban Giraffe theme guide 1 at:
    https://www.urbangiraffe.com/2005/04/12/themeguide1/
It would be great if they could add more guides that follow on from this first guide.

    Cheers for any help

    John

Okay. I seem to have gotten rid of the lines separating the header and footer.

I’ve not figured out how to fix the list to unordered though. I am wondering if there is something in the php making it like this, and if there is a wordpress setting to change this?

Also there is a gap above and below the sidebar, before the header and footer which I want to get rid of as well.

If anyone can help that would be super.

    Thanks

    John

    Hi John,

Glad that you got the gap issue sorted. Taking a look at your site I see that your sidebar lists are definitley unordered. An ordered list has some numeric or alphabetic order – 1, 2, 3, etc. An unordered list is just a series of bullet points.

To remove the bullets you need to change the style for the ul element within the sidebar. Take a look at W3Schools for a run-down of the available types.

Finally, I will be continuing the guide shortly!
