Customise Gallery to show image number/id before caption.

Hi All,

I am trying to show the specific image’s number/id on the standard wordpress gallery, hopefully before the caption so it reads something like “1 – Example Caption”.

I’ve searched around the forums but cannot find anything to fully resolve this problem, if anyone can give me some thoughts on how this can be achieved I would really appreciate it.

I have little experience with php,
