I’m going through the system emails and finding a lot that have bounced back. The reason being the email address is wrong

I don’t know why they’ve done this but customer x has registered twice, and placed orders under each account. One has @gmail.com, the other has @gmail.cim. Of course the @gmail.cim are bouncing back.

I can’t change the email address as it says it’s already used. I can’t delete the original user and change the other email address because there’s orders attached to it.

I’ve come across several of these. I need to be able to merge these customers together, keeping the orders attached to them.

Some orders are completed, some are processing due to items on back order.

Any ideas how to get around this?
    Thanks

  • Hi @witchystitchy

If the customer’s notification emails are bouncing back it should be their concern as they have used a non-existent email address. If they happen to communicate to you about this then you can let them know the reason and request them to close the incorrect one.

For the time being, as there are orders attached, you can use the Merge Orders extension. It comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee, so nothing to worry even if doesn’t allow merging orders from different customers as in this case.

    I hope this helps!

I realise it’s their problem but it’s causing us a problem because the Customer is then complaining that they aren’t receiving order confirmations etc and we’re chasing our tails trying to work out why.

Thanks for the link but no, that plugin isn’t really going to do what I want. I get the point of it though. I want to be able to merge users and the only plugins I can find to merge users only mention assigning posts to the users. Nothing is mentioned about maintaining orders.

    Hi @witchystitchy,

Have you tried updating the email address on the Edit Order page?

If you don’t see the pencil icon, disable all plugins aside from WooCommerce and switch to the default Storefront theme, and that should help.

No, I hadn’t even thought about that. Thank you – that should work
