Customers are Getting Corrupted Files

It was working perfectly for a year. Even the files whose links aren’t updated are still working.

But the files that are updated are getting corrupted. I am forced to use the “Redirect Only Method” to resolve it temporarily. But it reveals the dropbox link that isn’t what I want.

Is there any solution I can try to resolve the issue while still using the “Force Download Method”.

That’s strange! To help you troubleshoot this issue, please share the following WooCommerce logs with us:

• System Status: found under WooCommerce > Status. Select “Get system report” and then “Copy for support”. Once you’ve done that, paste it here in your response.
• Error log: found under WooCommerce > System Status > Logs

Also, there is nothing under Error Log in WooCommerce Settings > Logs.

I just updated to Woocommerce 5.6.0. Still, the issue exists.

Isn’t it too much information about my site to paste here.

Sending over your System Status Report is generally safe but you’ll want to remove WordPress address (URL) and Site address (URL) if you have any concerns about security.

Said that, if your customers are having troubles downloading the file it could be that your Dropbox file doesn’t have the correct permissions or a corrupt file which Dropbox can help you with.

Thanks for your response. The dropbox permissions are correct and files are not corrupt on Dropbox as the files can be downloaded by anyone having a direct Dropbox link which I am using as File URL in Product Setting.

Further, setting the File Download Method as “Redirect Only” in Woocommerce settings also resolve the issue but reveals the dropbox link.

When working with cloud storage links like Google Drive or Dropbox for downloadable products, we recommend using the Redirect Only method for the links to work.

But I am using the Force Download method for more than a year. It was working already. The issue just appeared when I last updated the links. While the other links that were not updated are still working fine with the Force Download method.

Using “Redirect Only” reveals the actual link of files while downloading. Then, there is no concept of revoking the download access at any stage like if the customer claims a refund or there is no concept of implementing downloads limits.

Is there anything I can do to resolve the issue again and go back to Force Download setting as I was using it for a year?

Do your download links end with ?dl=0? In that case, you can change the ending in ?dl=1 and see if it works. Another user had the same issue here and apparently that did the trick.

To confirm what has been previously noted, links from cloud storage providers, like Google Drive and Dropbox, only work when File download method is set to Redirect only (insecure).
