Customer password changed e-mail after every purchase for customers

    Every time an order is placed customer gets an email that their password has changed.

    This only happens to NON Admin users Admins do not get the email. From what I can tell this only sends an email but does not change the password itself.

    We have disabled all plugins except for Woocommerce, Stripe plugin for Woo (by Woocommerce) and an SMTP mail plugin. Theme was changed to WP default 2021 theme.

    Used both WP SMTP Mail and Post SMTP plugin with same results.

    We are hosted on a DigitalOcean droplet with the WP droplet from the market place.

    Hello @phillipswdc,

    I tried replicating the issue by placing an order from a customer account but I only receive the two order status emails. Am I missing something? Does this happen when using certain payment methods for example?

    Also, can you please create a copy of your website on a testing platform and try to see if the issue happens there?

    You can use tools like LocalWP to create a testing environment on your computer without the need for a new hosting plan.

    I am sorry again for the delay.

    I have tested this and it is still happening.

    This is happening in both staging and production

    I have removed all the themes and plugins by removing the directories recreating the directories and installing woo, woo stripe and wp smtp mail (this happens with post smtp and any other email plugin we use, also when we use postfix mail from localhost)
    This is a real issue we can debug from our end but it would be nice to get some attention on this. Much appreciated!!

    This is what we found…

    On checkout, while “placing order” WooCommerce is doing also customer update with data you input in form.
    This runs wp-content/plugins/woocommerce/includes/data-stores/class-wc-customer-data-store.php line 190 update method which runs ->
    wp_update_user ( wp-includes/user.php) for some reason it runs code block for password  or email change

    Thanks for providing further information about your issue here and I’m glad you were able to find a resolution via the code snippet on this link to fix this.

    However, as mentioned by @babylon1999 above, this is not the default behavior of WooCommerce when an order is placed on your site.

    Can you please try once again the following steps below and see if this works?

    I understand your frustration; however, for us to classify it as a bug, we need to reproduce the issue on our end. :?)

    That said, upon examining the wp_update_user function, your findings seem accurate but still, the email is not triggered on my test sites.

    I understand you are experiencing the same issue and since every site is different and you’re not the person who originally started this topic then, per the forum guidelines, would you please start your own topic?

    Additionally, please include your System Status Report that you can find via WooCommerce > Status. Select Get system report and then Copy for support.

    If you could also provide the fatal error logs (if any) under WooCommerce > Status > Logs.

    Once you’ve created a new forum topic, you can include the contents of your SSR and logs within your message on that forum topic.
