Hi. About 6 months ago(?) a woo update changed functionality of the checkout flow (and I’m just getting around to bringing it up now lol). So, now, when a coupon code is entered on the cart page, if the customer is NOT logged in, the coupon will not be applied. In the recent past, it didn’t matter if the user was logged in or not… as long as there was a qualifying address in the Cart Totals section, the coupon would successfully apply itself.

I just did all the plugin updates on my site and I went through and tested my checkout flow. So here is what is happening: On the cart page, in the Cart Totals section, a user can input their country, state, and zip code to check their shipping total. When I just tested it, I entered address information that should qualify for the parameters of the coupon I created. The normal shipping cost and total were computed. But when I enter the coupon code, I get an error that says: ‘Please enter a valid email at checkout to use coupon code “[blah blah blah]”.’

So then I have to click the “Proceed to Checkout” button and login as a user and then input the coupon code AGAIN on the checkout page. Yes, it works but its also kinda annoying.

So yeah, I figured I’d bring this to your attention and maybe eventually this could get addressed. Thank you for your time. We love your plugin!

Hi @katebopp, thanks for reaching out!

I can confirm that the text “Please enter a valid email at checkout to use coupon code” comes from WooCommerce (source code). I tested it in my test site and I can reproduce it too. This happens when we specify “Allowed emails” in a coupon’s usage restriction settings. More info is in our documentation. See screenshot below:

If you want to allow the coupon to be used even when the customer is not logged in, try removing the settings. Let us know if it works.

Huh, wow ok you are right. Perhaps I (or somebody in our organization) tweaked our test coupon setting. I dunno. Well, thanks for pointing that out. And thanks for such a quick response ?? Have a nice day.
