Custome URL Params directs to wrong page.

Hi,
I implemented the following to add custom url parameters to urls: https://dmjcomputerservices.com/blog/passing-url-parameters-to-a-wordpress-page/. However, when I add that custom parameter to the homepage link, it directs to the blog page. Can anyone help me fix this?
