• I apologize if this issue has already been resolved elsewhere but I couldn’t find it by searching keywords. I hope someone can direct me in the right direction.

    I have a custom theme for my site (charcoalproject.org) that was built almost ten years ago and which I’m reluctant to part with.

    For some reason, when I make changes to one of the pages using the editor feature — in this case, the Who We Are page –the changes are not appearing on the live site. I am however able to create new pages which those do go live when I hit publish.

    It was suggested that I disable Guttenberg and use the Classic Editor plug-in instead. But it still doesn’t push the changes on pages built pre 5.0

    The reason I know it may have to do with the custom theme template is that I tried visualizing the site using a off-the-shelf Twenty Seventeen theme, and the changes on the page did publish live.

    I also tried disabling various pluggins — at one point, all of them! — but that didn’t fix the problem. Thank you for any guidance with this problem!!!!

    Warmly,

    Kim

  • I would use this issue as your secondary reason to update to a modern theme.

    The first is that the theme is not responsive for mobile.

    Recreating the look and feel of your old theme using a child theme of a (free) modern, responsive theme like twentysixteen is what I would do…

    The third and most important is the errors being output on your single post pages:

    Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Call to undefined function related_posts() in /home1/charcoa1/public_html/wp-content/themes/TCPv2/single.php:24 Stack trace: #0 /home1/charcoa1/public_html/wp-includes/template-loader.php(74): include() #1 /home1/charcoa1/public_html/wp-blog-header.php(19): require_once('/home1/charcoa1...') #2 /home1/charcoa1/public_html/index.php(17): require('/home1/charcoa1...') #3 {main} thrown in /home1/charcoa1/public_html/wp-content/themes/TCPv2/single.php on line 24
