• I’ve used underscores to create custom themes, which I call boilerplate.

This week, I’m suddenly being asking to update the theme on all my sites, as shown here… https://snag.gy/RsbOG7.jpg

I have plenty of backups, so I tested it and it just deletes my theme and says failed to update.

I’ve searched themes for one called Boilerplate and can’t find anything that might be causing this.

    Any ideas?

I’ve just discovered this is a bigger issue…

I use MainWP to push updates and it’s basically deleted the theme on all my live sites!
    Fun times ahead…

This seems to be the theme that it’s updated to…

I’m now going to go about renaming my themes to something more unique.

I don’t understand how the theme update process works, but this seems like a flaw to me. If I see a company with a custom theme and create a theme with the same name and published it to the theme repo, could I potentially get my theme installed on their site?

Well there goes 10 hours of my life!

Lesson learnt… Rename themes and don’t use the same theme name across all sites!

If anyone can shed any light on what’s happened here, it would be greatly appreciated.

I’m struggling to believe a theme can update to a different theme, purely due to sharing the same name. I would have thought some sort of unique token would have been used.
