Custom Taxonomy Manage/Assign/Edit

I have a custom role that should only be able to use a custom post type and custom taxonomy, but I can’t get the custom taxonomy to be assignable without also assigning the role Editing Capability Posts:Edit.
I don’t want them to be able to edit posts, just custom post type and custom taxonomy!
