Custom slider height for different slides

This behaviour isn’t happening because of Auto responsive mode. It’s happening because of Content mode. (https://smartslider3.helpscoutdocs.com/article/1430-tutorial-video-content-mode)

Content mode works that way that it can adjust the height of the slider based on the tallest slide. So if you have at least one slide with lots of content, that will increase the whole slider height and all slides inside, as a slider can only have one height, not a height different on a per slide basis.

If the problem happens only on mobile, you can try improving the result like this:

1. Switch to mobile view: https://smartslider3.helpscoutdocs.com/article/444-interface-slide-configuration-area#device
2. Change the font size of your textual layers: https://smartslider3.helpscoutdocs.com/article/444-interface-slide-configuration-area#size

So since Smart slider is usually based around content mode, is it then not possible to have different heights on per slide basis?

No, a slider can only have one height, which is the same for every single slide inside it.

This is true whether you’re using Content or Canvas mode for slide building.
The only difference is that Canvas mode can’t adjust the slider height based on the space the slide content needs, so if you have longer slides, their content will be cropped. So it can happen, that the end of a text isn’t visible, because there’s not enough space for it. (E.g. your text would need 500px space, but the slider is only 300px high.)
Content mode does not let content to be cropped, instead it enlarges the slider to make sure that everything remains fully visible, which enhances the experience.
