The link above is one of many posts. For this question, I am referring to posts in the Anxiety Category, and the Romantic Anxiety one is where I have been trying to get things working.

I am using the Enfold theme. My blog posts are created/saved in the Default Editor (vs enfold’s Advanced Layout Builder). I created the custom sidebar and checked the location “As sidebar blog for selected categories” and selected Anxiety as the category in that field. For my Theme Sidebars, I have Allow this sidebar to be replaced for the Sidebar Blog (where Categories is selected–I do that so the main Blog Posts Page (the index of posts) has the categories listed in sidebar). In the blog post itself, I have played with every combination possible of the Layout and Sidebars fields (the boxes to the left of the default editor) and nothing is working:
    1) Sidebars box > Sidebar Blog > Anxiety Posts, and Sidebar Blog, and nothing selected, all tried.
    2) Layout box > Sidebar Settings> Right Sidebar, No Sidebar, Default sidebar all tried.
    3) Layout box > Sidebar Settings > Anxiety Posts, Sidebar Blog, and default all tried.

All combinations of all 3 of those, as best as I can tell, do not work, so I am stumped.

Since Enfold folks were the ones that suggested your plugin, I would think it should be compatible.

Theme authors have indicated that everything looks good in my theme settings and encouraged me to contact y’all. In searching through the other similar threads, I have not found a working solution.

    Any ideas?

    Hello @gatehealing

    Hope all is well!

I apologize for the late reply!

Please clarify, the sidebar is not showing at the Category Blog Post page with “As sidebar blog for selected categories” selected? I’ve tested this with Twenty Seventeen theme and could not replicate the same, all is well with a default theme.

I have played with every combination possible of the Layout and Sidebars fields (the boxes to the left of the default editor) and nothing is working

Also please let us know the Layout and Sidebars fields, is this Enfold them feature? The Enfold is a 3rd party premium theme and I am afraid I am not that well familiar with it. Or do you mean that you’ve played with widgets inside the sidebar?

Please try clearing site’s cache and browser cache, if changes are not shown.

P.S.: I’ve visited your site and see that post under “Anxiety” category showing different sidebar. The only post that belongs to “Anxiety” category and not showing a custom sidebar is yoursite.com/how-to-beat-fear-of-relationships-intimacy/. Does this post belong to more than one category?

    Please advise,

    Cheers,
    Nastia

When I do a post using the Anxiety category, all Anxiety category posts are not showing up in sidebar. Sounds like it works in the 2017 though.

I got my screenshot feature working and can send them to you if it would help. The theme sidebars (in Appearance > Widgets) seem to be unique to the Enfold theme. . . but they seem to think that your plugin typically works with their theme and have referred me back to y’all.

Regarding Layout and Sidebar boxes . . . these are the boxes that show up in the right-hand margin of the post editor. They look unique to Enfold theme. There are choices for Sidebar, header, Footer column 1, footer column2, AMP footers, etc. the Sidebar box lets you choose the sidebar to show for various sections (footers, sidebar, amp footer, amp content, etc.). The Layout box allows choices for Right Sidebar, Left Sidebar, No Sidebar, Default sidebar, display header for the post, display, etc. I can send you screenshots as that would be far more thorough than me describing each option.

RE: options I’ve played with, I have tried all kinds of things with settings in the custom sidebar fields in Widgets (your plugin), and in the Layout and Sidebar boxes in the editor itself.

And yes, fear of intimacy is in 2 categories: Anxiety and Couples, although I am changing that to just anxiety (since lots of folks with this anxiety aren’t in relationships).

Thanks for your help. Your plugin will do exactly what I am hoping if I can get it to work . . . I am wondering if come custom functions.php code from the theme authors may be interfering (I needed some code to fix a few issues).

Well, it’s not the functions.php custom code. I deleted that and cleared all caches and history to no avail. I had it working at one point . . .

    Hello @gatehealing

Could you please share with us some screenshots with your settings so we can try to replicate?
    We’d need some screenshots from:
    – new sidebar conditions (Appearance > Widgets)
    – edit post screen (along with these sidebar options)
We could then give this a try in a clean environment using only Enfold and Custom Sidebars.

    Warm regards,
    Dimitris

I’d like to share screenshots, but I do not see that functionality in this box. If you can give me an email, I can email it to you (unless I am missing the button for screenshots).

I’m going to share a handful of views.

    1) How I setup Anxiety Posts custom menu (widgets page, sidebar location): https://drive.google.com/open?id=1KFwHVSts4BdM9-qO_qo7-pekyLztWozB

    2) View of Widgets Page without 1) open: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1ikzRYxzOBCbwzKMzocAin8SVV0F4o9fz

    4) #3) with Sidebar Blog dropdown options shown (anxiety posts is selected): https://drive.google.com/open?id=1SfH73ZDjPIQkf9qVdX-Y4OYxTWxL_iEj

I’m pretty sure I labeled those correctly. Let me know if they don’t provide you with the info you are looking for.

    Thank you again

    Hello there Jon,

I’m really sorry for the long waiting time here.

Please try to use nothing in Layout settings in post editor here (just use the default ones like I did in my tests):
    https://monosnap.com/file/Mm1vyASaOkrSj5TstxbEYCZViZQH26#

You should also don’t have to set a custom sidebar in post editor here:
    https://monosnap.com/file/GgoaHeYkhAl66foaLhHZcChfRpJvGD#

Cause the setting you have in the new sidebar display rules should take care of that. https://monosnap.com/file/B3thyUQ4nvlZ4BRoAjbfJcH0GJ2ndX#

Above settings it’s all I had to do to display custom sidebar widgets when viewing single posts from the “Anxiety” category.

Let me know if that makes any difference!
    Thank you,
    Dimitris

I had tried that, but tried it again. No luck though ?? I cleared all caches and browser history etc.

Were you working in the Enfold theme, or one that came with WordPress?

    Jon

    Hello there @gatehealing,

hope you’re doing good today! ??

Yes of course, I tested using Enfold v.4.4.1 which I think it’s the current latest version. This screenshot that I shared comes from Enfold too:
    https://monosnap.com/file/Mm1vyASaOkrSj5TstxbEYCZViZQH26#

Can you try to create a staging environment of this installation, meaning a complete and exact copy of this site into another location/folder in the same server, using a separate database.
In there, deactivate all other plugins and MU-plugins apart from Custom Sidebars. Also activate Enfold parent theme, in case you use a custom child theme. Follow the steps I mentioned in my previous reply and let me know how that goes. If it works well, then some of the deactivated plugins/mu-plugins/child-theme is causing that, so start activating them one by one until you track this down.
If you don’t want to create a staging environment and prefer to do it in the live site, please grab a recent working backup of all files and database, in case you need to restore it after the conflict test.

    Warm regards,
    Dimitris

I am using a child theme so I can add the functions.php code to tweak a few things with elements within the theme. I have already tried completely deleting all child functions.php changes with no impact on the issue. I cannot create a staging site without creating an entire new subdomain, creating the databases, moving everything over and setting things up. I’ll do this if needed. I’ll try deactivating all plugins except your and turning them back on one by one to see if that fixes this. I think I did have your plugin working with all current plugins before, I just cannot get it working again now. I have tried deleting and reinstalling your plugin to no effect.

Ok, I shut off all plugins except yours to no avail.

I have got to be missing something.
