We have been thrilled with the Custom Sidebar plugin for the last 2 years!

However, about 4 weeks ago the left sidebar menus (Custom Sidebars) on all subpages disappeared (ex: Lunch Menu, School Board, etc). The space for the menus is present, but the menus aren’t visible. Ironically, when I go into Customize and change the default menu setup to either Right Side or Both Sides, the menus will appear beautifully but on the right side.

No site customizations or updates were done within the 2 months leading up to the menu disappearance. What could have caused the menu to disappear on the left side of the site and how can we get them to appear on the left side once again? (I currently have the menus to appear on the right side of the site so users have access to site content)

Any suggestions on how to get these Custom Sidebars to follow the default sidebar location?

Sidenote – when I switch the default sidebar to Left Sidebar, the main sidebar menu (Sidebar Left) appears on all the pages so we no longer have the additional options like School Board Minutes and Annual Budget Report on the School Board page. (similar story with the other pages)

    Thank you!

  • Hi @bhaugen,

I tested the theme you are using on my installation and the menu in custom sidebar was showing properly when in place of left sidebar.
I see that the theme had an update about month ago and that you’re using that versions, are you sure that there weren’t some other updates around that time as well?

Could you go to Appearance > Widgets, export Custom Sidebars, upload the export file to any file sharing service like Dropbox or GDrive and share the download link here so I could test it further on my end?

Also, can you create one test page with menus not displaying and share the URL to that page so I could inspect the page and see if I could get some information on what’s going on?

    Cheers,
    Predrag

Thank you for looking into this issue!

    Hello @bhaugen ,

I’m sorry for the late response.

I have checked your test page and it seems that for this page template that is selected is one with only one sidebar on the right.
In the source code it has only class “right-sidebar”, when it should have “both-sidebar” if it needs to have sidebars on both sides.
It doesn’t matter if you select custom sidebar to be shown in left sidebar if the template doesn’t display that sidebar.
You need to change templat for the page first.

I have tested this theme with your settings exported and I don’t have issue showing custom sidebar on left side as long as correct template for the page is selected.

    kind regards,
    Kasia

    Hello @bhaugen

We haven’t heard back from you for a while, so I’m marking this as “resolved”.
Feel free to post back any updates or open a new ticket about it.

    Take care,
    Dimitris
