Custom Shortcodes

I was wondering if anyone could help me out with a shortcode. Before i try to explain i will show you can example of what im talking about. if you go to https://www.ign.com/games/reviews? i was wondering if anyone knew if they just used custom shortcode to pull taxonomies?

What im trying to accomplish is along the same lines but instead of games im doing it with movies,also was wondering how they did their search function? if anyone knows and could point me in the right direction that would be awesome!
