custom search results template for child theme

When working with this plugin, I followed the instructions to override the default template and other template settings. However, my active theme is a child theme and the instructions do work if I place it in the parent theme. However, when updating the parent theme, I will lose this file. I would like for you to add the option to place the custom search results template in the child theme as well.
