custom role permissions issue

  • About a year ago, on a few websites, I created a custom role called “pages-posts-editor”. It was similar to “editor” with a few permissions changes.

    A couple of days ago, one of my page-posts-editor users noticed that they got an HTTP Error whenever they tried to upload media. I noticed that the default roles (editor, administrator) did NOT have this issue. I compared my custom role to the default editor role, tried to match them up exactly, but the media upload STILL wasn’t working. I ended up switching everyone to a tweaked editor role instead, which works fine.

    Do you know why a custom role would have this issue? upload_files was checked off for the role.

    Some plugin may set the additional restriction. Try to deactivate all plugins temporally and re-check if a problem still exists.

    strangely enough, it seems to be working fine now, without the error. if it pops up again i’ll post here.
