Custom post types vs categories

    Hi there

    I use a number of custom post types on my wordpress site, and of course a number of categories.

    Does the plugin need to be able to handle custom post types to send notifications for posts (of any type) in categories? I’m thinking so…in which case, how’s the custom post types part of the roadmap lookin’?

    Also, is there a way registered users can sign up for categories in which they’re interested?

    Thanks for your message.

    Currently, the plugin can do regular posts (and their associated categories and tags) and custom taxonomies (the custom post type version of regular categories).

    Full support for custom post types is coming in the next major release, due next month (February).

    Greater control over signing-up for notifications of individual categories or tags is something i’m currently considering for a future version but don’t have any solid thoughts on it yet. For now, if you have category feeds switched on, users can subscribe to single categories via RSS should they wish.

    I’ll leave this ticket open until the update with custom post types has been shipped.

    Wow, cheers for the super-speedy response!

    That’s really helpful to know, cheers ?? I’ve been trying (in vain, lol) to find a simple solution which:
    – offers registered users the ability to choose which categories / custom taxonomies they are interested in (tickboxes in a signup form, drawn from site list)
    – notifies them when a post tagged with those categories / custom taxonomies is posted.

    I’ve had a look at your lovely plugin, and it seems happy to let me notify people on the publishing of a new post / custom post type, which is an awesome start!

    I’ll wait with interest to see your updates.

    It’s an interesting idea and front-end, non-member subscriptions to things is again, something i’m considering in a future version. Great minds think alike!

    Hi Per,

    I’d recommend opening a new thread instead of adding to an old, unrelated one (the WordPress Moderators will thank you) but yes, a number of page notifications will be coming in the release after next.

    Some of the features in this thread are on the roadmap but a way off yet.
    Some (custom post type integration) is handled better in the next release, due next week.
