Custom Post Type Transfer

I have two sites: one in development and one live. There is a custom post type on the live site that I am trying to transfer to the development site. This post type contains hundreds of entries with information and images attached.

Every time I try transferring it to the development site, all the posts port over, but the content (namely, the images attached) do not. This is a huge issue for my site as I need all this content transferred properly.

From reading a few past threads, it appears that images / media only ports over when you export everything from a site (not just an individual post type). I’m not looking to export / import everything – I just need that one type.

Is there any way around this or any viable solution? I tried a few plugins that were supposed to help preserve the images and transfer them over, but they did not seem to help. Obviously, because I’m dealing with hundreds of images here, I also do not want to bring all the images over manually.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
