• Am I correct to assume that there is no simple way to select custom post type OR tag of a custom post type and restrict that?

I have tried to restrict by tags of CPT, cat of CPT, etc. And NOTHING works!

Right now I have hundreds of posts under multiple CPT’s and cant restrict them using the simple methods found on settings page (s2member-res-ops).

If not, can u please point me to where (field) in the DB the value is set if one was to do this normally in admin.

So pro version gets support here now?

  • First, Pro version gets no support here now. This is a community forum for the free product only. Pro help is at s2member.com.

I’m just a user who has received help in the past who is happy to help others in the same position as I was.

I have a hundred or so of custom post type posts all protected by s2member. It’s simple to do. Go to Restriction Options – Post Access Restrictions and either put in the post IDs for the requisite level or (much easier) just type all for the requisite level.

Hit Save All Changes and you’re done! This covers ALL posts, whether regular or custom.

If you want to change the level required for specific posts (whether custom or otherwise) you can do that on the standard post editing screen.

Everything you mentioned is kinda common knowledge. My question is based on restricting by tags and or by cats. I have hundreds of post under different CPTs, some need to be protected and some dont.. not trying to open/edit hundreds of individual posts to set them to restricted one by one.
At this point I may have to go to db, filter based on tag and then export the post IDs, copy/paste that long list of IDs into s2member restrict by IDs.

But it really should be a better way then this..

Well, if it’s common knowledge, you’ll know that you can use the same method to protect categories too, won’t you?

Three settings down from Post Access Restrictions.

Yes it is common knowledge.. and no, cats of custom post types does not get recognized ??

Not automatically, no — but it does tell you how to get them recognized, as you will doubtless also know.

    (@bernardberry646)

Well please provide a link to where S2member can restrict CPTs based on categories.. or where you say CPTs get recognized by s2member.

I thought this was common knowledge?!

Under Category Access Restrictions, you’ll see a tip to use this plugin, also by s2member.

Really not understanding the cryptic responses.. if there is a specific plugin why not just say the name of the plugin?

As for the plugin mentioned under Cat Access Restriction is WP Show IDs. that merely shows cat IDs.. which does not help at all. I know the cat ids for the CPT’s taxonomies.. it DOES NOT restrict CPTs using them. Rather u use the ID # or the actual name of the category.

In fact, there is only one single way to restrict access to CPTs and that is by entering a comma list of EACH single ID# or going to each individual post and setting it on that post’s edit screen.

If you know of an exact method other than those two.. please share rather then leaving cryptic responses PLEASE.

If you ask for help, then claim you know what you’re told anyway, even when I’ve already said I’m just a user, not s2member support, I don’t know what else you expect.

All I can do is say what has worked for me. You say it doesn’t work for you. I am sorry about that. Why not ask s2member themselves?

I clearly said My question is based on restricting by tags and or by cats. I have hundreds of post under different CPTs, some need to be protected and some dont..

You are talking about restricting ALL.. Im not trying to restrict all!
I clearly said by tags, taxonomy or cat ID of CPTs.

So to keep saying you have done it, you have not.. you have restricted ALL of a CPT.. that is NOT what my question asks.

    Hey, KTS915 –

I thought you did a fine job trying to help out.

    Just saying.

Yea NO DOUBT, go to S2 Member or get WebDev support for 39$ a month geezz.
And Yes KTS915 I just went where you said and it makes perfect sense
