Custom post type page template url problem

Hello,

• I’ve created a custom post type, books
• I’ve created a page-books.php template
• I’ve created a new page in the wordpress admin and set it to my page books template

So far, so good. But the page template only works if the url to the page is not https://www.mysite.com/books. This url seems to be reserved for a archive page (when I copy my page template as an archive page, I can use this URL).

Is there a way I can set my page to this URL with the page template enabled?
