Custom Post type archive page 2 404… help

  • I have a custom post type of post_type
    I have a php page called archive-post_type.php

    When I visit mysite.com/post_type/
    it calls that archive and everything is good

    When I click previous posts it goes to mysite.com/post_type/page/2/
    Which gives me a 404 and does not even call archive-post_type.php
    What do I do!?

    This solution works:
    1) in wp-admin >> settings >> reading set blog posts to show as 1.

    But I’d like to find a less hacky way…

    I didn’t understand why, but it saved my day.. It was driving me crazy! lol
