• Hi, I also have a question about Custom Post type and custom taxonomies. I have a travel site with a CPT of ‘Properties’ (hotels). There is also a custom field ’email’ with the hotelier’s email address.

I would like to be able to set an expiry date for each hotel, and an email notification to be sent to the hotelier to warn them that their listing on my site is due to expire.

Is that something that could be built in?

Would be happy to pay for such a feature.

    Thanks.

That sound REALLY specific. As I mentioned in the other custom post thread, I’m totally unfamiliar with that part of WP.

Since your particular need is so specific – not only the CPT but using a custom field to determine who to notify – it seems very unlikely that this will ever become a part of the standard setup.

I suspect it would be fairly easy to jury-rig something specific to your setup, though. Another intriguing problem for me to think about, perhaps!

So I’ve had a look at custom post types and all that jazz. It would indeed be possible to fix something up specifically for your needs, though it’s beyond my programming skills to put such flexibility into the generic setup for the moment.

If you would like to contact me via my plugins site (setupmyvps.com, contact link in top-right), I’d be happy to look at putting together an additional function for your specific case as part of my CPT learning process (assuming you don’t mind sharing info about your site setup/structure and other stuff). Don’t want to put email addresses out here in public. ??
