    Hello,

we have some issues with Custom Permalinks and WPML plugin.
If we use both of them we get an error and the translated page doesn’t work anymore.

Is the plugin no longer compatible with WPML?

    Thanks in advance.

    Best regards

Hi – I have the latest WPML and latest Custom Permalinks installed, but on posts that I have created a translation with a custom permalink, I’m getting a 500 error on every other refresh.

Anyone else experiencing a state of half working?

    Hi @okadots,

nope, since the latest update on that plugins everything works like a charm (again).

You can see it here: https://www.netzwerkstudio.de/en/

By the way: What do you mean by “posts that i have created a translation with a custom permalink”?

You just create a post as usual. Then you translate the post, using WPML. That’s it. The URLs will be handeled by the plugins.

In my opinion custom permalinks are more for pages, rather than posts.
You can set up the categorie bases for all your languages instead of modifying the permalinks for the blog entries.

So, if you want to achive, this for example:

    yoursite.com/blog/hardware/
    yoursite.com/blog/software/

    or respectively

    yoursite.com/de/blog/hardware/
    yoursite.com/de/blog/software/

…you should not do it with custom permalinks, but with the categorie bases.

    Does that make any sense?

We have a situation where we need a custom post type with a custom taxonomy to have a different slug to preserve existing urls from the old site and the preference is not just to do a 301 redirect.

The custom post type post permalink would be
    mysite.com/post-type/post-slug

But 10 posts in that custom post type with the custom taxonomy of “resources” need to have the url:
    mysite.com/resources/post-slug
    mysite.com/fr/resources/post-slug (for French translation)

This url – mysite.com/fr/resources/post-slug – loads with a 500 error about 50% of the time.

We are trying to avoid having another custom post type, because it’s just a few posts.

    I see…

Well 50% of the time, that’s strange… it usually works, or doesn’t.

Anyways, I can’t help you with that specific problem on the Error 500, but perhaps you could find a plugin, that redirects to the most alike page? I know there is such a plugin. But since the error occures only half the time, it’s probably some kind of misconfiguration of either custom permalinks or wpml.

Have you checked your server log for those errors?

    Hi @okadots ,

I agree with @netzwerkstudio , either the URLs work or doesn’t. It may not possible that 50% times the URL and 50% it doesn’t.

There should be some other issue. Please create new post and make it’s translation using wpml and check whether the page works fine for you.

@netzwerkstudio , This plugin works for pages, post and custom post types ??

@okadots , Let me know the result of your new created page.

    Sami

My apologies!! The plugin I was using is “custom post type permalinks”. I will now try your plugin instead, because the other one doesn’t work ??

@sasiddiqui – was there ever a resolution to this? we have a different problem, but i thought that perhaps a fix to this might fix our issues as well.
