Since BPS will only work with a Custom Permalink and “/%postname%/” is now one of the “common” radio button choices, how can I use “/%postname%/” as a custom permalink setting?

Here’s the problem: When I click on the “Custom Structure” radio button and enter “/%postname%/” and then “Save Changes”, WordPress automatically unchecks the “Custom Structure” radio button and checks the “Post Name” button. So it seems that there is no way to use “/%postname%/” as a Custom Permalink setting.

Help with this will be greatly appreciated.

You may or may not need to use custom permalinks. In the past/older versions of WordPress that was necessary, but that was a long time ago/many WP versions ago.

In the past search engines gave a lot more weight to link names containing target key words, but that does not have as much weight these days.

With all that said, I still think using custom permalinks is the smartest thing to choose.

Regarding custom permalinks defaulting to the “Post name” setting option. That changed a while back in one of the WP versions, but it is still the exact same thing. It is just a some sort of default mechanism thing built into WP now. If on the other hand you entered a Custom Structure like /%category%/%postname%/ then the radio button would not default to the “Post name” option setting since it would not be the same and there is no default WP option setting for Category/Post name.
