Custom Meta Icons

This is my first time working with WordPress. I created custom vector icons for blog categories and would like to use them in the meta tags that are associated with the corresponding category of a blog post. Right now I am using the fontAwesome icon set but can’t seem to figure out how to simplify uploading my SVGs to use as the post meta icon. Most of my searches led me to just uploading custom fonts for use in the actual post or in menus but I don’t see how I could use that for use in the metadata of a post. As you can see, all post categories have an icon of an open folder, when I would prefer to use my own icons like the one’s on the right side navigation (desktop view).
