I am using the notsoboringlife.com theme and it is really excellent. I am trying to get the custom theme header to work. I’ve tried to contact the author but have been unsuccessful in getting a response.

I go into the custom header image section under the presentation tab. I have my new image showing as a cropped image but it doesn’t show up on the blog. I’ve tried numerous time – at least 10 to get it to go through.

But the image remains in the admin section under customer image header, but it doesn’t show on the blog.

Can you please help me out? I am trying to get this fixed.
    My blog is scovilleclan.com.

Please feel free to let me know what you find out at scoville [at] byu.edu.

What you may have to do is manually upload the custom header through FTP onto your website into the themes “images” folder. Make sure that the custom header image has the same name as the other one, so that when it uploads it overwrites the other header.

nevermind didn’t read well. Yes upload by ftp to the theme image file.

I’m not sure I understand. I’ve tried to input the new image that was created by the custom image header but it looks funny. It doesn’t look as nice as the original.

Can you tell if I am understanding this correctly? Or is there a specific file that you are talking about related to the custom header that I’m not understanding.

I have updated the blog with the customer header and it looks screwy. Any ideas?

if you go to the theme page and click on background image this is what you see https://www.notsoboringlife.com/wp-content/themes/Field_of_Dreams/images/header.jpg

what do you see when you open your theme files and look in the image folder for header.jpg

Here are a couple links to some images of what I think might be the problem. It is not coming out completely correct when I do the custom image swap. And also there will be a couple of links to what my admin looks like compared to Ryan Boren’s site model of custom image header.

Okay…this might be a silly question, but is the new header the same size as the one that came with the theme?

If it is, you shouldn’t be having any trouble. Try following the advie I gave you before about uploading the new header through an FTP into the themes’s images folder instead of using the WP admin panel. I’ve never had a problem with my images when installing my images into my theme that way.

Thanks for the comment. As I opened both pictures, I can see that they are not the same size. I am taking the size from the snapshot I took using the custom header. That is what the custom panel made. I didn’t do it separately.

How do I get the nice look that it has when you open the original notsoboringlife.com theme. In the header he has all the things on the top. I was under the impression that it would keep the same basic format and just add my image to it.

Is that not the case? Please let me know. Also I have iPhoto for the mac and would like to do what I can to make an image I have work with this theme. Is that going to be possible? I’d still like it to look wavy and cool as his image does.

experiment with this open your theme file, find images, find the one that looks like the default and download rename the one I just made to that.

Remember to rename the original to original header or something so you back it up.

after you switch out the pics open your ftp and upload the image to overwrite the current file. If that works then you have a place to start from.

What program did you use to do that? I would love to do it too. I would also like to make the inserted image take up the entire space where the blue and green are but thank you so much.

I am photoshop and image merging/layering illiterate. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have been messing with splashup.com to see if I could do something similar.

I posted the new file and this is what it looks like.

It seems to break up the blog. header from the main page. what could be happening. the picture looks great.

I think that the image is great, however on further inspection it looks like the image file size needs to be 1029 by 306. And I think the one you sent me was 800 by 200+.

Thanks a million this is a great start. Now I just need a photoshop type program without the price to get in there and do some of this myself.

The image combo is growing on me.

Here is a link to a copy of the full and original file that I was cropping to make into the header.

The GIMP is a free photoediting program with many of the same functions as photoshop. It’s a good one to use if you don’t do a lot of photoediting – photoshop is fairly expensive.
